Health at the Core of Everything We Do

From the beginning of the Lwengo Widows and Orphans Support Organization Limited in 2012, staff have included health and well-being activities in every project.

LWOSO recognizes that good health is foundational to education and economic success. That's why health initiatives are woven throughout all of our programs.

Integrated Approach

Health services are integrated into our educational programs, micro-credit groups, and community outreach, providing health support for sponsored children in primary school and students in Shepherd High School through the on-campus Shepherd High School Health Clinic.

Educational Program Health Services

  • HIV/AIDS testing and deworming upon enrollment for all sponsored students
  • Regular home visits to assess family needs and provide support
  • Parent/guardian meetings at Shepherd High School to discuss student welfare
  • Two daily meals provided at primary and secondary schools for proper nutrition

Micro-Credit Group Support

Members of our micro-credit groups support each other through:

Shared Meals

Contributing meals for group members in need

Cooking Supplies

Providing cooking supplies to families

Compound Cleaning

Helping maintain clean living spaces

Infrastructure Projects

Building latrines and other sanitation facilities

School Health Clinic

Established in 2018, the health clinic at Shepherd High School provides essential services:

  • Full-time nurse on staff
  • Malaria testing
  • HIV/AIDS testing
  • COVID-19 testing
  • Student illness evaluation
  • Health education classes
  • Hand-washing stations
  • Clean water dispensers

When students need additional care, the clinic provides referrals to Katovu Health Clinic for further treatment.

Pandemic Response

During the COVID-19 pandemic, LWOSO distributed emergency food and sanitation supplies to support families in the community.

Community Health Partnerships

LWOSO coordinates with local health agencies to maximize impact. This includes student participation in clinic maintenance and fire safety training with the District Fire Brigade.
