Promoting health and well-being in our community
From the beginning of the Lwengo Widows and Orphans Support Organization Limited in 2012, staff have included health and well-being activities in every project.
LWOSO recognizes that good health is foundational to education and economic success. That's why health initiatives are woven throughout all of our programs.
Health services are integrated into our educational programs, micro-credit groups, and community outreach, providing health support for sponsored children in primary school and students in Shepherd High School through the on-campus Shepherd High School Health Clinic.
Members of our micro-credit groups support each other through:
Contributing meals for group members in need
Providing cooking supplies to families
Helping maintain clean living spaces
Building latrines and other sanitation facilities
Established in 2018, the health clinic at Shepherd High School provides essential services:
When students need additional care, the clinic provides referrals to Katovu Health Clinic for further treatment.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, LWOSO distributed emergency food and sanitation supplies to support families in the community.
LWOSO coordinates with local health agencies to maximize impact. This includes student participation in clinic maintenance and fire safety training with the District Fire Brigade.
